Asgard FPSO
Asgard B platform came on stream on October 1, 2000,
and produces around 12 billion cubic meters of gas per day with delivery
to the continent through the 1,400-kilometer Europipe II pipeline. The
overall Asgard project ranks as one of Norway's giant offshore
developments, on a par with Ekofisk and Troll. The field was developed
with the Asgard A production ship for oil, the Asgard B semi-submersible
production floater for gas and the Asgard C storage vessel.
Asgard FPSO, operated by Statoil in
Scandinavias offshore (Norway) is protected by 185 SharpEye Triple IR (IR3) Flame Detectors.
The SharpEye Triple IR (IR3) Flame Detector is
the world's most advanced, high-sensitivity, reliable and virtually
false-alarm-immune flame detector. Click here
for more information on the Triple IR.

"BANFF" Floating
Production Vessel, (FPSO) North Sea, (UK)
The
Banff field lies 25km south east of the Gannet accumulations in the
Central North Sea, 200 km east of Aberdeen.
Banff is developed by a new Floating Production, Storage and Offloading
(FPSO) system owned and operated by Petroleum Geo-Services UK Limited
(PGS) on the Conoco oil field in the North
Sea.
The Banff field development is the first use of the Ramform hull design as
a floating production system. The hull, which has a characteristic delta
shape, provides both a large load-bearing capacity (up to 16,000 tonnes)
and stable work platform affording a compact alternative to a conventional
parallel-sided tanker conversion. |
Aker and CEGELAC Engineers and Norfass and Hitech
Fire and Gas Contractors installed Spectrex Flame and Gas Protection
Systems:
Gas: 40 SafEye Flash (IR) Detectors, Model 203 (31-131ft)
24 SafEye Lamp (IR) Model 301 (2-11.5ft) (0.6-3.5m)
15 SafEye Flash (IR) Model 202 (3-12ft) (9.8-39m)
Flame: 50 SharpEye Triple IR (IR3) Model 20/20I.
Curlew FPSO
Curlew
is located in the Central North Sea, 210km east of Aberdeen. The Curlew B and
Curlew D reservoirs are located in the western Central Graben of the North
Sea. The £300 million Curlew field fast-track development involved
converting an existing tanker into a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility. The Maersk Dorset, originally built at the Odense
Steel Shipyard in Denmark was selected for conversion into the 100,000
tonne Maersk Curlew. The FPSO is operated by AMEC for Shell Exploration. The flame
and gas
system is contracted to I.C.S. and like other modern offshore production facilities, is
protected by 45 SafEye Line-of-Sight Gas Detection Systems.
Norne (Statoil)
Norne
lies in 380 meters of water, about 80 km north of Heidrun and roughly 200 km
from the north Norwegian coast. The field has been developed with a production
and storage ship tied to sub sea templates. The vessel is a turret-moored
monohull equipped with production, storage and offloading facilities. A pipeline
tied in to the Asgard transport system has been laid for gas export. More than
100 Triple IR Flame Detectors were installed by Autronica Offshore Fire and Gas Contractor.

Petrojarl IV
Foinhaven FPSO
The
Petrojarl IV Foinaven ship is operated by BP in the West of Shetland
field in the North Sea. Oil is stored in the ship's double-hulled
tanks and is offloaded every three to four days to dedicated shuttle
tankers. Siemens installed the complete fire and gas detection system
including 230 SharpEye IR3 Flame Detectors with communication
by means of RS-485 databus (Profibus) loops between the detectors and
control central computer.

Schiehallion
Schiehallion
was discovered during the autumn of 1993 with the semi-submersible drilling rig
Ocean Alliance was exploring the deep waters of the Shetland Trough in the NW
Atlantic. The field is operated mainly by British Petroleum (BP) and six other oil companies are involved in the licenses. The production wells cluster around
a sub sea manifold, which receives the produced fluids from the wells. From there,
flow lines take the fluids to the FPSO. The FPSO vessel, designed and built at
Harland and Wolff, is 246m long with a dead-weight of 154,000 tonnes. The
production facilities consist of a number of processes for the recovery of the
reservoir products; the cleaning and re-injection of gas and water; and the
chemical treatment of the reservoir and facilities. The Schiehallion FPSO is
capable of storing 950,000 barrels of oil.
The flame and gas system contractor is Silvertech. The
production vessel is monitored by over 130 SafEye systems, covering distances from 130 meters to half
a meter path, and protecting areas such as ducts, turbines, intakes and exhaust, as well as
various production sites.

Terra Nova --
Largest-ever Offshore Oil Production Project in Canada
 Terra Nova, Eastern
Canadas second largest oil field, is located on the Grand Banks 350 km
east-southeast of St. John's Newfoundland, and 35 km SE of Hibernia, in 95m of water.
Petro-Canada is operator for the field with a 29% stake, with five
equity partners: Mobil (23%), Husky (17.5%), Norsk Hydro (15%), Murphy (12%) and Mosbacher
(3.5%).
Terra Nova is subdivided into three major
structural blocks: the Graben, East Flank and Far East. The field is estimated to contain
over one billion barrels of oil in place of which about 400 million barrels of oil are
recoverable. Design, construction and installation of the FPSO, sub sea equipment and
pro-production wells were carried out by the Terra Nova Alliance, a consortium of
companies led by Petro-Canada, including Shawmont Brown & Root, Halliburton Energy
Services, FMC Offshore Canada, PCL Industrial Contractors, Coflexip and Doris ConPro
Offshore.
Two types of SafEye units were used:
1) SafEye Model 204 Flash Type IR for hazardous outside locations on
the deck and the hull of the FPSO, and
2) SafEye Model 301/302 IR Duct units used to monitor air flow for
flammable gases inside duct air intakes.
"TRITON" Floating
Production Shipping Offloading Vessel (FPSO), North Sea (UK)
On "TRITON" FPSO, owned by Shell/Amerada Hess, reservoir
fluids are processed to enable stabilized crude oil to be exported by
tankers. Gas is exported and used as fuel on the FPSO. Honeywell Control
Systems (UK) installed the fire and gas protection systems that
included Spectrex line of products:
- 14 SafEye IR Flash Type Model 202 (3-12 m)
- 25 SafEye Open Path Gas Detector and IR Flash Type Model 203 (10-40m)
- SafEye IR Lamp Type Model 304 (0.6-3.5m) (Duct Application)
